In red dead redemption i killed lobo the wolf and cant find his pelt, what do i do?

So I'm playing red dead redemption and for the quest with jack where you kill all the wolves i killed Lobo the legendary wolf, i killed him before the secondary hunting quest was active so i didnt know i needed to skin him. what do i do? can i reset the quest? or am i screwed? I've searched for his carcass FOREVER and i can't find it. it sucks. helllpp!!
