Can you learn Javascript without knowing html?

I really want to learn Javascript but I only know the basics of html, will I need to have a good understanding of html before learning Javascript? What I want to do when I learn Javascript is create .js files that can be compiled with Greasemonkey to add things like links and buttons to websites, remove specific content and maybe alter its appearance.
